English tests

English Language Test Requirements

It’s mandatory to take one of the following valid English tests if all or part of your courses in France are taught in English:

  • IELTS “Academic”
  • TOEFL “iBT” at a test center
  • TOEIC “Listening & Reading & Speaking & Writing”
  • Cambridge “General and Higher Education”

From January 1, 2025, online English tests will no longer be accepted.

For courses taught entirely in English in China, it is possible to take one of the tests listed above (IELTSTOEFLTOEICCambridge) taken within the last 5 years. Campus France reserves the right to request additional documents.

Exemptions

The following applicants are exempt from the English test:

  • French government scholarship holders;
  • Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders;
  • Holders of the equivalent Baccalaureate in English (IB, ACT, SAT, A Level, etc.);
  • PhD students;
  • Students enrolled in or having completed a program taught entirely in English in countries or territories where English is the official language.
